The coils in old tube radios were all coated with either varnish, shellac or wax during the winding process, after setting coils are firm and hold shape.

I have modern equivalent rubber magnets for gold foil pickups.
It is 3/16" ( 0.187") thick and available in any size you need.
The size for a pickup is 1/2" ( 0.500") X 3"

They are 0.187" X 3.0" X 0 .50" with the holes on 1 .125" center to center.
