I think I’ve actually found the root issue - the neck pickup was shorted internally all along. Wish I’d had the forethought to check that before wiring everything up, but now I won’t forget again in the future, haha. Really appreciate all your help on this!

I tried clipping that bridge between lugs 4 and 5 again, and I got the same result I initially did- position 3 now has no sound, leaving only positions 1 and 2 working. Interestingly though, the ground loop is gone based on my multimeter testing - so the issue must be elsewhere at this point...
