Disconnect the volume pot from the neck pickup and attach a cable to an amp directly (crocodile clips or whatever). That allows you to rule out electronics harness and pot problems.

Obviously you don't want to shield with magnet material inside the pickup's magnetic field.

There was also a fashion of just pushing 18 volt into EMGs for a cleaner sound.

The 1983 models that made it to Europe were really good guitars. I don't know whether they are the same in the US. Needed a pickup swap, but that was it.

Any conductor inside the magnetic field of the pickup will dampen the amplitude of the resonance peak. Doing so is also useless (no noise reduction) if the pickup is a humbucker with a shielded wire anyway. On a Fender style guitar with true single coils you might hear a noise reduction, but...

It is obviously false that EMGs have no resonance peak. I don't know how they made that graph.

EMGs are plentiful on the used market. I recommend you get one of each and sell what you don't like later.

It's also doable to replace the lead with a 4-conductor one. Just not a good first soldering project. Alternatively you could just run one additional single wire to one of the coils to kill it in position 2. You don't need 4-wire to split, just 3.

You can simulate a 250k volume pot (when it is full open) by using crocodile clips and put another 500k resistor across the outer lugs. For the tone pot all you have to do is turn the 500k port down to where it reads 250k and you simulate 250k. The amplitude of your resonance peak is hard to...

Is there a 6-saddle Tele bridge that drops into a '52 Tele AVRI without woodworking? I want to use it for some higher gain stuff (don't ask). 6 saddles for intonation would be welcome. But I don't want to drill new holes.

I use DR on most of my basses and can't say I had problems in the last 10 years.

Different brand, different core, different winding material, different gauge.
