To me the difference is pretty major. With A2 the JB becomes a mid-pusher, although not nearly as much as the Custom with A2. FWIW I ike it.

I always used a dbx 160x (19" rack). Among other things it has better visual feedback.

I know this isn't what I typically write like, but I believe tone pot capacitors sound different by type, and not strictly by what they measure. I verified this as follows: a 12-position rotary switch with various types of capacitors, all the same stated value there is a pretty clear...

I think much of that tone change came from pedals, higher gain amps or not. And from people opening up to tighter speakers than v30s. \m/

Everybody can buy custom tapered pots from CTS - if you get enough of them. Some years ago some vendor - I think RS guitarworks or some name - did that and people liked the pots. Of course there is confirmation bias once you spend money, so YMMV.
