Alright, good people.
XSSIVE has kindly asked me to take over the reigns for the coming week. Sounds like a fun time to me.
Questions of a serious and ridiculous nature are actively encouraged, and I'll let the admins decide how far we can lower the tone...
A quick bio to bring you guys up on the basics:
I live in Auckland, New Zealand with my girlfriend and 9-month-old kitten. I grew up the youngest in a family of seven, with four brothers and two sisters, all of whom are quite a bit older than me. Started playing guitar when I was twelve, and quickly became obsessed with everything to do with it, practicing endlessly in a desire to become the next big shred dude. I had a lot of chops, but wasn't very musical.
Around the end of high school, my interests drifted more towards drinking and chasing women. After a couple of years of general carousing and menial labour at an art supply warehouse I decided to follow my social circle and pursue higher education, eventually graduating with a degree in communication studies, majoring in multimedia. Shortly after I was employed as a web designer for a software company specialising in CRM, where I worked until going out freelance just over a year ago.
Over the period of time I was studying, I started to get back into bands. After a few years of jamming (often hilariously) with the wrong dudes and going nowhere, I gave up. Shortly afterward it was suggested that I put a band together for my birthday party. Lo and behold, a seven piece band fell out of the trees. Ain't it always the way?
-Anyway, we played, had a ball, and kept going. That band turned into The Hot Grits, an 11 piece afro-soul orchestra. The Hot Grits is now about to release it's second record, entitled 'it's too drunk to be this early'. We're in the process of signing to a local independant label, shooting a video and organising a touring schedule that will see us playing nationwide (which, being New Zealand, is equivalent to touring, say, California).
I also play in The Defendants, which is a four piece that sounds like the Brit end of 70s rock. There's also a bit of Detroit influence, and things can get a bit stoner at times. I'm currently laying down overdubs and solos for what should be a full-length album release for later this year.
On top of that, I'm gearing up to be involved as backup for a very talented female singer-songwriter friend. my job will be to add atmosphere and twang around the edges. Think tweed, bigsby, trem and reverb...
I love all kinds of music, and the arts in general. Outside of creative pursuits my main interest is football (the world kind). I'm a lifelong supporter of Liverpool FC, and I play seven-a-side in summer (no more winter while I have three bands).
so that covers the basics.
let's have at it...
