T4D, this a great well.. I really admire your thought process and direct answers. I realised not long after joining this forum that you're not one for suffering fools... great way to be!


Ok, it's obvious to me that you have a very professional atitude to work and are of good moral standing. But in this world of uncertainty, if you had to change jobs and do something completely different what would you really want to do and why?

yunno, in a perfect word, i'd be able to suffer fools more gladly ... i'm workin' on it in real life and it actually isnt too hard ... on here, it is harder to get super motivated to do so 'cus i come here to kick back and not be so 'on', yunno? ... plus, i rarely, if ever, meet people in real life who are as bad as a few people can be on here ... some people seem to feel free to act quite badly on here for their own amusement .. quite a shame


as for the job, thing ... interesting hypothetical question ... part of me would like to teach at the college level .... but not be responsible for research ... just genuinely teach ... now THAT would strain my 'fool suffering' capacity, wouldnt it? ... alternately, i'd actually like to try the trades - electrician, plumber, carpenter, etc ... i think that i would have the capacity to learn how to use the tools properly and my problem solving skills would apply ... i think that the task oriented, close ended nature of that work would suit me ...

of course, if i could make a family-supporting living as a guitarist or guitar teacher, or guitar tech, i'd love that ... but it hardly seems likely

i am not a real big ice cream eater ... maybe 3 or 4 times per year ... i cant remember the last time i had any either ... and i am not sure that i have ever eaten ben and jerry's ... i went to their website to look for a description of their flavors and pick the one i will try if i ever am in one of their shops ... gotta be imagine whirled peace .. i am a big caramel and toffee fan

What would you consider your strongest ability/talent?

What do you regret the most in your life, that you would like to correct if you had the chance to?

This is obviously a difficult question, but perhaps it's possible to word it without interfering with the rules: what do you value the most with the American society? And what would you rather see be improved?

as if i havent been skating on the thin ice of pretentiousness this entire episode of 'the well', this question drops 16 tons onto my shoulders, no? ... if i have to answer something, i'll say that i am grateful to have a predisposition inclined to taking serious things seriously and not serious things not seriously most of the time ... and to usually have the wisdom to sort the two piles correctly ...

What do you regret the most in your life, that you would like to correct if you had the chance to?
well, i hope that you'll understand that i will not divulge my biggest regret - it is too personal and involves others who i must protect ...

i will be happy to offer a few of the lesser - but still substantial - regrets ... as i have alluded to, i regret not having had the skills or ability to forge a better, more genuine, relationship with my father before his death .. clearly i could only change my side of the bargain, but i wish i had done more/better/something in this regard ...

another regret is that i did not get marriage counseling sooner .. too long working too hard doing things that were probably making things worse ... couldve gotten much better much sooner with less collateral damage ... especially with regards to how marital strife has a strong negative impact on parenting .. so this one is a twofer regret ...

i also regret having let myself fall into such poor physical shape .... when i got married at age 23, i was in reasonable shape and should've done even a LITTLE something to maintain it ...

what do you value the most with the American society? And what would you rather see be improved?

first part - IMO, there is much to value ... despite what i will say in part two, the US (and my state and county) commitment to public education is among the things i value most ... without it, we'd be in much much worse shape ... i also value that there are so many people still devoted to improving our nation by trying hard to get it to live up to the promises - so many yet unkept - written on our birth certificate in the city of my birth some 232 years ago ... i also kinda like that i can complain about it without getting tossed in jail or worse

second part - and i will set this boundary condition for my answer - i am going to answer in the abstract, not in terms of advocacy for a public policy initiative ... in fact, as i will explain, i think that there is little that can be done in terms of laws, regulations, etc that could bring about the improvement ... specifically, i think that the level of education and overall 'critical thinking' / 'practical intelligence' of americans is abysmally lower than i wish it were ... and i think it gives rise to extremism and exploitation and general decay of the public order ... i guess i am still an optimist who believes that if people could only be made to really 'get it' they'd stop doing so many terrible things or electing people to do terrible things for them ... as strognly as i would like to see meaningful education reform/support, i am too much a realist to know that it is not sufficient to making progress in the area i am describing .... it has to start in the hearts and minds of the big people who vote and pay taxes and send their kids and work in schools ...

kinda mood and context dependent ... but i like green alot

new balance for cross trainers ... rockport for dress/work shoes

i use these in conjunction with my fingers ... in addition to being my fav thickness and shape, they are my fav colour pick cus they show up easy enough when i drop em on dark stages

well, i gotta say that i am mostly a hard tail player . .. even on my 2 guitars that have vibrato bridges, the arms are in my basement somewhere - nowhere near the guitars ... i like the tone of the EJ strat with the bridge it has, even though i do not play it in a way that takes advantage of all the features - i think the springs clearly help define the tone ... i do not think i'd dig a hard tail strat quite the same way

my reason is simple ... once i heard allan holdsworth, make a trem guitar sound exactly like the way i heard it in my head but could never do, i decided that i wasnt going to spend any more time trying to do it ... it is on the same axis as wah pedal playing, to me ... it is too hard to get out of the cartoon phase ... if i wasnt in a cover band, i wouldnt own a wah

i have no interest in ever owning a locking floating floyd style guitar ... seems like rocket science to me and i dont wanna have to think that hard about guitar

hmmm ... i am not optimistic that human society will be in very good shape in 500 yrs ... i think the likelihood of a devastating disease or mass famine (if not all out war) is pretty high ... i remain hopeful that we will have found plentiful renewable clean energy sources ... i think we will be a lot closer to mad max than eden

bible action hero, huh? ... i dunno - the idea doesnt resonate for me ... the good samaritan, maybe?

i didnt see he movie - just the TV commercials ... probably foraging for food, playing guitar, and wankin' to porn
