500 is the actual number that were made.

... and anywhere from $220 to $250 less than the relic version which most retailers are selling for a mere $399!
true, but fender/evh owns the rights to it so they can re-create it if they wanted. That is why SD had to come up with that new custom shop model, the IM-1 or something like that, because they dont have the rights to the EVH humbucker

The IM-1 is 14k the '78 is 9k, the pups in the new wolfgang are ceramic. God knows what this one is like
I don't know what an EVH pickup is anymore....

Most SD Custom Shop models are $160 and up.

Well then you'd be happy with the EVH pick-ups- they were made by Seymour Duncan.

Nobody's exactly holding a gun to their head to force them to buy one!
Besides, people pay that much and more for baseballs, footballs and jerseys autographed by their favorite player so, go figure...

Look,... it's being sold at that price not because it's a magical pick-up that will make you instantly sound like Ed, but because it's signed by Ed and it's a limited to a run of 500. It's essentially made for the die-hard collector... nobody else is being forced to buy one!

Yes, and for $160, they'll wind me anything I want.

Including the "IM1" which reproduces the sound of the EVH Frankenstein...

If that's a Duncan CS model, then probably so.

I like Duncan & DiMarzio prices, and think that once you get above those, it's past the point of diminishing returns for pickups.
