  • The Official FTL Drive 1st Production Run Thread

UPDATE: ORDERING HAS CLOSED! PARTS WILL BE ORDERED FRIDAY! If you haven't already contacted me by now, you're out of luck! Congrats and thanks to all who ordered!

For those who don't yet know, I have built a pedal called the FTL Drive. I posted a demo video on YouTube, and so far 11 forumites have expressed interest in purchasing one. I am going ahead with a limited production run of the FTL Drive.

    Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqECIyBJU_Q

Here is a thread where I went through my design process for the pedal: https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?t=154404

This is a very, very cool pedal. I use it in my live rig and I'm very happy with it. The demo video is nice, but it doesn't do the thing justice. It's one of those pieces of gear I find myself playing through for hours because the tone is so addictive. It is a high quality pedal in every respect. It responds to pick attack and guitar volume like a real tube amp. That's to say nothing of the versatility. I dare you to find an overdrive pedal out there that can cover as much ground as this one can.

Ordering has now closed, and the production process will begin soon. I will post another thread showing the progress, and will be in touch with everyone who ordered throughout the process.

    Thanks everyone!

A few tidbits of info about the pedal:

    - Based on the Tube Screamer circuit, and can sound pretty close to a stock 808 if you want
    - Two distinct overdrive sounds in one box
    - Six clipping modes, including clean boost
    - Lots of EQ options via. the Tone, Presence, and Fat controls
    - True mechanical bypass with no annoying "pop" when switching
    - Built with a rugged aluminum enclosure and top quality components
    - Runs on 9V battery, or DC power supply up to 18V
    - RoHS compliant
    - Built with pride in Canada

Count me in, gotta get $130 in my pay-pal account, but count me in! Would you take a M.O.? Thanks.

Serial no. 002 goes to GoDrex!

(001 is the one you see in the video. I built it for a friend who turned 40).

I don't think that would work; sorry. If I hit 12 pedals between the time you send it and I receive it, you'd be screwed. I wouldn't want that to happen.

Re: The Official FTL Drive 1st Production Run Thread

Just for comparison guys, here are some comparable pedals on MF along with what they cost:

              Fulltone Fulldrive: $180
              Vox Joe Satriani Satchurator: $130
Visual Sound Jeckyll and Hyde: $150
              Ibanez Jemini: $200
              Tech 21 SansAmp Tri-A.C: $200

I'm not saying that the FTL is better or worse than any of these - just wanted to show you that this is a very good deal.

Where's the BSG-themed control knob names?

The most popular thread I've ever made was 1) a joke and 2) based around literally the most inane/mundane question I could think of. That says something about me, or all of you, or both.

                      Quick questions:

                      1) If it's still available, can we pick our own serial number?

                      2) Can "color" be spelled without the "u" for the American market?

                      3) How many orders have been placed so far?

                            1. Sure, I guess

                            2. Nope ... gotta draw the line there. I don't want to have to make a whole other label template just for you. This pedal is made in Canada, and up here we spell colour the proper English way.

                            3. Two orders have been placed as of now
