  • FX loop question

can some please explain to me what an FX loop does, but in layman's terms. I know some people prefer different things in the FX loop of their guitar amplifiers, and i know that i personally prefer my Delay's and Mod's in the FX loop too as opposed to the front of the amp..i just want to know why and what exactly it does.

    Thanks so much

    Re: FX loop question

it inputs your effects after the preamp gain stages ,before the power amp section in the amps circuitry.
So your efx dont get goosed and colored by the preamp and gain

    mostly

ok, so it kind bypasses the preamp section so that the effects have a "purer" sound that isn't effected by the amps preamp section and EQ, etc...?

        Re: FX loop question

No. The effects loop is a patch point BETWEEN the preamp (where the gain and tone controls are) and the power amp. It enables you to put effects after the preamp, which is a good thing if you are using reverb, delay, and so forth with a high gain amp. That way, you are delaying the distorted tone, instead of distorting the delayed tone. The result is more clarity under high gain. Some people also put EQs in the effects loop to get greater tone sculpting ability.
