Sounds double tracked to me, at whatever interval is appropriate for each song. It's obviously not a new thing, see Orion for a great example. Granted, the tracks are pretty dense, I guess it could be an Eventide in there or something.

most are probably double (or more) tracked with other guitars playing two strings/one octave up.
