I have a couple Telefunken pre tubes in my stash of NOS tubes. I'll check tonight to see what they are exactly.

So far, the most impressive NOS pre tube I have is a Belvu, made by Mazda in the 50's.
It's in the 1st position of my Matchless Chieftain 212 combo.

It would be quite funny if the Blooz Lawyer who buys one, sticks it in and it squeals like a stuck pig.

It's most likely that they will have audiophile clients in mind rather than guitar players. Like the Mullard 10M, they are very rare and hard to find, and are renowned not only for great tone, but also for longevity. Ironically, even at that ridiculous price, there's no guarantee that they will sound great in a specific guitar amp. It would certainly be difficult to find an amp builder from any era who would have used Tele 803S as the stock preamp tube in their designs, and quite often in the vintage amp world, you are better off going for something that the manufacturer would have originally used and voiced the amp around, eg, blackplate RCAs in Fenders and short plate Mullards in Marshalls and Vox. Swapping those around doesn't generally work so well, the RCAs are too bold in a Marshall and Mullards tend to sound insipid in a Fender. These Telefunken 803S are renowned for being clinically flat in the mids, which could be great for hi-fi but not necessarily great in a guitar amp.

JJ currently makes a clone of the 803S. It's my favourite 12AX7 at the moment. It definitely won't sound great in every amp. But I still want that original to try!!
Why don't you take your little Cobra Kais and get outta here?!
