  • Tele Stack pups w/ Fender 4 way?

I found another post on this topic on TDPRI, but the solution suggested therein did not work for me.

I am trying to wire a set of vintage tele stack pickups to a fender 4 way switch. I used the wiring suggested here:

Positions one and four are all honkey and quiet, like a strat in pos's two and four without a RW/RP middle. Positions two and three come through strong, but sound the exact same. I double checked all my wiring twice. What could I be doing wrong? Do I need to switch the polarity of one of the pickups? What's goin on?

The diagram is correct BUT, I think it is related to the old tele switch.
If you stand your switch as in the picture, with the waffer at your right hand, you will notice that lugs aren't in the same position, right?.
I mean, the left column of lugs seems to be at a higher position in that picture but, probably in your switch is the rigth column of lugs which is higher.

Confirm if this is the case and, I will draw some diagram, later.

      Old switch?

This is the switch I ordered:

can you see the lug orientation from the pic there or shall i take one myself?

You guessed correctly, in any case, that on my tele, the set of lugs sitting "higher" than the other is reversed from those the diagram. I just assumed that the switch operated the same in either orientation, much the same way that a typical 5 way switch is reversible. Should I just desolder, turn the switch 180 degrees, and then resolder?

well im a fool. i didnt realize that flipping the switch would leave me with the same arrangement over again. though i did notice a clump of solder which may have been connecting two of the lugs in an obscure way.

          bump

should i just treat the stacks like a single coil and wire according to the diagram that the SD generator suggests?

okay. i fixed it. it turned out the switch wasnt passing into pos. 4 properly. i bent the terminal with a pocket knife and now it works after rewiring.

Just to confuse the issue - wiring 2 SD vintage stacks to a 4-way switch, but would prefer the following order (from tail of guitar) Bridge - Series - Parallel- Neck. This seems to me to be a more logical order, flipping from rhythm to lead & back. Thanks in advance for tips or ideally a diagram.

Cancel that order. Found the diagram here - http://www.tdpri.com/forum/just-pick...age-stack.html
