  • Magenta metallic P-Bass project

The T-Bird came out really well so now my other bass playing superhero wants one. Doing an 80's-ish P-Bass for him *** need a lefty neck if anyone has one

The face of this bass is a little beat up but I was dying to see how this would look so I shot the back while I fix the face. Just have to be careful with it or sand it all off, either way is fine.

As I kind of figured the Krylon glitter flake paint is crap. It might be good for a little fun project but no good for this. Just dug the color so I figured why not?

Inconsistent, uneven - looks nice enough from a few feet away but not going to use it again.

I might lay on a lot of clear and finish this up for now then come back and re-do it at another time, not sure. Probably just rip it all off and start fresh with the good stuff if I can find a similar color.

Are you interested in checking out a spray system setup? There's several available, and you don't have to 'richard' around with rattle cans.

If you're planning to paint large areas, you might want to consider using a sprayer. In the power arena, three types of sprayers are appropriate for do-it-yours

Scott - what exactly was your process there? And is there (it appears) a thread about another project? Link please...

Thats a bummer because that colour was killer!

                  Re: Magenta metallic P-Bass project

Well we decided to clear it just to see how it would look

Not as bad as I expected. if I could've found the camera I might have been able to capture the sparkle, its pretty intense. The color variation on the top almost makes it look like an ice pop which is kind of neat.

Now I have to wait a few days and wet sand it then a few thin final coats of clear.

Thanks for the link Reggie I will check it out. Ace this was a simple sand and spray project for my bass player. I did have to fill in some nicks and scratches. I use a fast glue, let it dry and then sand it down, works very well.

Wet sand and another clear coat. A couple more times of each and it should be pretty good

I would like that but it's getting all black hardware with a black 3 ply guard.

None of the guards my bass player gave me were actually for this guitar, I just laid one on too see how it looks. Neck and parts are in except for the pickups, should be together soon.

Next up is another one of my bass player's guitars, this one is probably going to be sold when it's done.
