        You installed Lumbergh?!?

        lol! Sorry, daddy-o. I'm slammed this week. It'll be tomorrow or Thursday before I can get around to posting pics of my floor custom reverse zebra Perpetual Burn. heh! And probably Sunday before I'll be able to carve out some time to install.

                I was going to lick my screen, but I don't think Jason would appreciate that.

                  all right, creepy porno moustache blue dude....here are my first thoughts....

                  it fits right in there with the Full Shred and the Demon and the C5 and the IM1 ( <- original A5 version, of course) and almost the Original El Diablo ( <- Hot Demon ). not quite as tight and focused as the FS or the IM1. hotter than the Demon, but not quite the scoop. it has bite and drive but not as much as the Original El Diablo. a wee bit more open than a JB, but it's not into the PAF sort of open voicing. I agree that the mids are a little even. not the emphasized mid growl of the JB but not a hollow scooped mid section of the C5 either. it's not as thick and chewy as the 78, but it could be an in-between from the 78 to the IM1. so think of the JB, then the IM1 and then the PB and then the 78.... not really in output, but if you were to draw a line between the JB and the 78...as I can see someone pulling off some good VH tones on the PB. it's wired to p/p from series to parallel and it does have a nice clean parallel tone when on a clean amp setting. not as harsh as the JB and not quite as shimmery/sparkly as the IM1. at one point, someone compared it to me as similar to a 59/C Hybrid, but I'm not hearing that at all...meaning that I think of the hybrid as a bit twangy and needing a little drive. the PB is not really twangy and thankfully has the drive I was hoping it would. for someone looking to be practical, I think this could be considered a bit of a nuanced in-between step if you already have something in this general vicinity...for what that is worth.

                  the readings are as follows:

                  series = 13.11k
                  split N = 6.51k
                  split S = 6.60k
                  parallel = 3.28k

                    Hey Darth when I first fired up the PB my first reaction was wow this is a really open hot hot PAF type pickup but then after playing it a few more times I didn't really get that vibe from it ,maybe my ears were playing tricks on me. I always use an OD pedal(gain off , vol cranked) to tighten things up and that also gives the PB some nice compression and a kick of gain. Your 78/JB mention is a good comparison
                    When asking for pickup suggestions please tell us what amp you`re using

                      I can see that. I have two identical guitar, with the IM1 in one and the PB in another. A JB was in there immediately before the PB. And a 78 was in the other prior to the IM1.

                      It's a good pickup. Nothing wrong with it at all. I don't personally see it as a game changer, but I don't think that was the intention anyway. It seems as of they were advertising it as something that would fill a gap in a certain part of the lineup, and I think that's what it does.

                      Guys that are OCD about pickup tone will be able to pick up on it for sure. I can see where a player with a more pedestrian approach to pickups might move from one of the other pickups in the same ballpark and might wonder what the difference is. But if you want something louder than the Demon but not as loud as the JB and something not quite as focused as the FS but more focused than the 78 or as scooped as the C5....this would fit right in there.

                        EVH is a gearhead after all. You think he might already be aware of the Perpetual Burn pickup or is his ego too large to consider checking out pickups not wound by him or for him?

                        Somebody should also send one to EVH. It sounds like a modernized version of his classic tone, if played right. LOL

                            Would you say that my assessment of the tone in the official video is off base? I thought it sounded like a hi-fi version of a '78. It had that chewiness but sounded more modern at the same time.
                            Nope...

                              badass. Sounds like a lot of the things I look for in a really balanced pickup (in terms of EQ, responsiveness, and output).

                              I almost want to get a guitar just for it.
