  • $700.00 for silver face Twin Reverb - good deal ?

Never heard of the Silver Face AB 763 Twin Reverb before.

Is it a good Twin Reverb ?
Is it a collectors one ?
Is it one of the 'desirable' models ?

What can the Fender Gurus tell me about this model Twin Reverb ?

    Thanks

It's a transitional model. The AB763 was introduced in 1963 and carried into the early silverface years.

I would say that's a pretty damn good deal in your part of the world. Even over here it's still a moderate deal. Those twins are collectible but twins in general are hard sells because they're so damn loud and heavy.

AB763 is the blackface circuit. It was kept until it was replaced with the very similar AB769 which was brought in not long after they switched to silverface.
      do it.

That's a really good deal for that amp, IMO. An excellent condition BF with the same circuit would typically run $2100+ USD. And if it had the D-120s--wow! (But be prepared to buy a forklift to move it!)

When you've had budget guitars for a number of years, you may find that your old instrument is holding you back. A quality guitar can inspire you to write great songs, improve your understanding of the Gdim chord while in the Lydian Mode, cure the heartbreak of cystic acne--and help you find true love in the process.

That's one I'd buy for the reasons stated above. Silverfaces didn't start getting lame until 1975 when they added master volumes and other bad CBS decisions.

A healthy Twin with new speakers and tubes is a clean tone to behold. $700 is a good price if it's in clean condition.

They added the MV in 1970-71. I have a MV in my 72.

Keep in mind that the OP lives in South Africa. Though I'm not familiar with the availability of vintage amps over there, I would imagine that they're a fair bit harder to come by than over here. So $700USD there is probably like finding one for ~$300 here.

              OP, do it right now.

Here is the amp in question.

For new and secondhand musical instruments for sale in Johannesburg South, search among the large and varied collection of offerings featured on Gumtree's local classifieds.

                Not in 100% cond. but then again, it is only R 7 000.00 = ($700.00 USD / 1 to 10 exchange rate)

Just emailed the seller to see if it is still for sale.

We know a Twin Reverb is WORLD FAMOUS for it's stereo typical Fender cleans.

But can that amp (still all original, he says) deliver warm tones too ?

Thinking : Les Paul w WLH bridge pick up into a Twin Reverb ! (?)

I use a 335 with wlh's into a 1969 twin. Is it warm? Its superb. Speaker choice will make a difference tho.

The seller says the speakers is still the original units.
