Re: New Product: The Seymour Duncan 805 Overdrive
Here's my unsolicited idea for a dream overdrive pedal; multiple op amp chip selection in a single pedal, slots for people to put in / switch out their own op amps, along with multi-band EQ (three band would be enough if the treble were affecting a higher frequency, perhaps 3 to 7 kHz). Various 8 pin op amps are easy to get on ebay and they cost almost nothing, all anyone needs is a nice harness.
I got a Biyang OD-8 X-Drive that lets you switch out op amps in the back, but it's a pain to do and could never be done in the midst of playing. It also has the single tone control instead of the three band, and I love the bass/mid knob of the new 805. The different op amps do make a big difference in tone, and it's easy to see why the JRC4558D is so popular, but it's nice to have choices.
