Doesn't seem to matter if it's Victor Damiani or Gabe Nelson, Cake's albums have a consistently great bass sound. Deep, but with an attack and without being "clicky". Also, none of the midrange honk that so many get out of a Precision.
"Hem Of Your Garment" is a standout, in my book. Just a simple P-Bass, getting the job done. Live, it's through an SVT. In the studio, direct through some nice tube gear. I googled it once, and found a thread somewhere on the web with lots of details from somebody how's worked with the band in the studio.
If I were a bass player, I'd want to sound like Cake.
