Maple Fretboard; I like the 57 Classics thus far...they sound nice and have some grit to em.

I played an Epiphone Tribute with 57s
I thought they sounded great

They get a lot of crappy reviews but I liked them

Hadn't read any reviews on them other than in reviews for the Raw Power and it seemed they were well liked. They're certainly not cheap individually from what I'm seeing. No need or plans to change them IMHO.

Thanks! The Raw Power was advertised as "the Les Paul in its most basic form yet built like none other before". It's got all the essential ingredients plus the Maple Fretboard and Body to set it apart from the standard.

Interesting. The 57 Classics in my 335 were really muddy, but it sounds like Maple body/board might be just the right wood combo for them. Congrats on the NGD.

I can't say I'm familiar with Gibson's current offerings; only new Gibby I've tried out recently were a Memphis 335 Studio and a 2016 Hollow Body LP of some sort. Not really sure in what the '57s are used. I like them in the Raw Power though. I may try changing out the Volume/Tone Pots as the pickups seem "held back"/not as open compared to my other guitars; Jackson Glow has an Active Mid-Boost and both the USACG Iceman and Ibanez ICT700 Iceman each have DiMarzio 500K Push:Pull Vol/Fender TBX Tone.

The Memphis 335 and the hollow LP both use the MHS pickups I believe
Memphis Historic Series

Or at least the 2016s I played did

I liked the MHS pickups as I did the 57s in the Epiphone I played

They are some expensive pickups

The Memphis Guitars sounded good whatever was in them but I think I like the '57s better.

Time to learn some riffs from that album!

Raw Power has one of the most iconic guitar riffs ever written, IMO ("Search and Destroy").



I love that video. Some people don't like Matt much, but seeing his face when James plays the intro to "Search and Destroy" is priceless (around 1:52). You can tell he's just as stoked as the viewer. Kind of like in the movie "It Might Get Loud", when Jimmy Page starts playing the intro to "Whole Lotta Love"...Jack White and The Edge just have this "everything in my life has been leading up to this" kind of smile on their faces.



That reminds me, I should really watch that movie again. It's great.
