Your playing is fine. Playing guitar is not a competition, people who think this have no idea about what music truly is. You have skills just enjoy what you are doing. You are on the right track.

I would suggest try not lifting your fretting fingers so high when doing those chromatic runs. Keeping your movements small will enable faster, more precise runs.

Other than that, it doesn't sound bad. Keep at it, and in 6 months to a year, watch this video and see how you've progressed.

as for constructive criticism no reason to feel bad ever, be at one with where you are

try using a metronome and playing slower stuff, you might find out you like non-shred music too ;-)

Have always been a fan of slower stuff like pink floyd
But I just feel I should be playing better after playing for 11 or so months.

11 months is nothing. You sound fine.

What I would say is notice what you always tend to play. Then, don't play that. Learn music you wouldn't normally listen to. Play clean for a month straight, and work on technique and form.

There's nothing inherently wrong with your playing, not at all. You sound fine, especially for 11 months in.

People ask me how long it takes to learn to play guitar somewhat proficiently. I tell them 18-24 months to get the basics down (and that's if you practice a LOT) and a lifetime to master. You never stop learning or trying to get better, but you gotta do it for yourself.

Divide your guitar time between uncommitted jamming/improv/riffing, learning material you like (woodshedding) and focusing on specific technique or theory that you want to improve. You'll be fine. Practicing to a metronome or a backing track will do wonders for your playing, especially when it comes time to play in the studio or with a band.

Keep up the good work, man!

Re: Feeling bad about my playing...

Lot's of great advice here so far.

for 11 months your on your way man. However, since you asked for it here's a few things I noticed:

-Small technique issues. I think your right hand position is going to cause you some issues going forward when playing fast palm muted stuff. Unfortunately this would be stuff I'd need to sit down with you with, can't really describe over a forum
-Except for MOP, your timing was actually pretty good. When structuring practice make sure you put in some time for some work with a metronome. It's boring but man does it pay off. I wish more drummers did this...****, don't get me started.
-Look for ways to 'streamline' your playing and practice doing power chords with your index and pinky. I saw many different fingerings and alot of unnecessary movement like someone else mentioned
-Glad to hear someone jamming out some Dissection!!

Keep on truckin' man! Your definitely on the right path it seems

I struggle tremolo picking multiple strings at once

The simple fact that you're asking about your playing to begin with is great. I've been playing for five years, learning mostly Metallica. I've only recently (1-2 years) gotten to the point in which I can play any Metallica song with the album.
