Re: Feeling bad about my playing...

There's always a bigger fish, always a better player. Just think about what you want to be able to play and just keep practicing to achieve that goal. There's lots of advice to bee found on here for pretty much any style of playing and technique imaginable. I've been playing for 13 years, joined the forum over 10 years ago so this forum has been a huge help and inspiration on my playing and tone. There are some real critics here and you know what?

    God bless em!

You are doing great, just keep working at it, look at yourself and see the progress you have made from where you started from. It takes time, if it were easy everybody would be doing it. keep it fun and practice ,practice, practice. keep up the good work.

If it helps, I’ve been playing for 30 years and always thought I was a pretty good player. I’ve played hundreds of gigs and even a couple of pretty big ones (for me). About 6 months ago I decided to take lessons again. My new teacher has got me doing a lot of “fixing bad habits”. I’ve also been feeling pretty bad about my playing. Some of the things I’m working on are things that should have been learned 25 years ago. Some days I struggle to play what should be simple concepts.
But I guess we all have our guitar playing mountains to climb. I feel like I should be a better player than I am too. And it’s not like I’m a bad player, I just feel like after all these years I should be the balls. And I’m not. It’s been humbling.

Its a continuous climb to the top whatever that is. Everyone on this forum is climbing to get to the top of that mountain, none of us will reach the top but trying to get there that's the goal that keeps us moving forward. We are all at different levels in our abilities to play such a great instrument. Enjoy it be happy with yourself at what you have achieved, take one day at a time and keep moving forward. There is no competition here, the only competition is within yourself.

If I invite someone over for supper and then they proceed to pick my home apart I give em a poke in the teeth.
You should do the same with your playing. No matter how long or how"good", YOU ARE playing and that is what counts.
F#$k em if they don't have anything good to say.
Now put that video back up there and show em what you got.

In about 30 years you can be as bad as I am!

Well, I couldn’t see the original video, so who knows?

That isn’t really my cup of Frappuccino, but all it needed was some bass and drums.
