  • Lemmy's gear

When I was a kid listening to his band I actually thought I was listening to the rhythm guitar when I realize now it was actually all Lemmy. Deaf Forever and Orgasmatron are a couple of examples.

What did he use to get that gnarly tone?

This is fairly easy to find as it didn't change much throughout the years:

      -Rickenbacker bass
-Marshall Super Bass Heads (He had a handful that were his favourites)
      -4x15 Bass Cabs (Marshall)
      -Turn it up loud
-Play style...this is a big factor that is often overlooked

        Re: Lemmy's gear

Part of what makes Lemmy's bass magically fill in for both the bass and rhythm guitar is that the drums are played in a way that takes up a lot of space in a mix. Put Phil Taylor's really busy drum style together with Lemmy's playing style and sound (which emphasizes a lot of harmonics that further fill out the sound), and it sounds a whole lot bigger than just two instruments.

              Never.

With that said, depending on your setup you may need a sansamp or an overdrive since he literally cranks his Super Bass's to get all that hair.

Also, it's less distortion than you think, as the cut from the high end makes it sound like there's more than there is, if that makes sense.
