Re: How to smooth out guitar neck?

My approach to sticky necks is less invasive than sanding. I've done this with my NCL finished Gibsons and gloss poly finished G&Ls.

I go over the neck with Virtuoso Cleaner, using a fair amount on a soft cloth...terry, microfiber or tee shirt. I rub it in good and let it sit for about twenty minutes before buffing it off. Then I repeat.

I then go over the neck with the Virtuoso POLISH, again using a clean soft cloth, and rubbing it in well. Again, I let it sit for about twenty minutes before buffing it off.

The Virtuoso seems to actually harden the lacquer and remove the stickiness, morever it has not returned.

This has been really effective, and certainly will not affect any resale value, where a sanded neck may decrease the value of a guitar.

When you've had budget guitars for a number of years, you may find that your old instrument is holding you back. A quality guitar can inspire you to write great songs, improve your understanding of the Gdim chord while in the Lydian Mode, cure the heartbreak of cystic acne--and help you find true love in the process.

Yes, 3 full turns, probably more, and I am not exaggerating. First it had 11s, then I changed it to 10s.

The rod isn't broken cause I could feel tension when turning it, and the neck actually managed to stay straight for 3-4 days. Then the problem surfaced again.

I've given up on it totally. Some of the frets are sticking out along the edge. Maybe it's just permanently bad wood to the bone?
I had that issue with a Strat; a tech was able to heat and clamp the neck straight.

Also I am the only person in the world apparently who *likes* shiny neck finishes.
