Here's something I learned the hard way: don't go too hard on the finish. It can lead to removing the protective finish and lead to the neck getting warped later down the line. Don't go easy, and check the feel of the neck often. It's better to have a bit too much finish then a useless neck.

It's pretty tough to go that deep, but it is possible.

I don't know about every single case, but in certain climates exposed wood can expand and contract in an asymmetrical way, causing the neck to warp over time.

I've got a MIM and it's not an issue with food. It's just the guitar came from the factory with too thick a finish.

See mine feels satin and smooth straight from Ensenada. Humid where you are? When I think Sticky Strat I think of the vintage glossed models, not the Standard.

Is that a fact? No wonder the neck of my Charvel (which is unfinished) won't stay straight.

No really. I was actually referring to my So Cal. I have turned the rod at least 3 full turns but the relief won't go away. The neck is just oiled, no finish.
