  • Triple Ceramic Custom

Has anybody tried a triple ceramic custom yet, with the double thick ceramic and the flanking magnets? What about a double thick alnico variety magnet with or without flanking magnets?

This sounds like a good area for experimentation, but as a high school I don't have the money to spend on this hobby just to experiment.

Now the double thick alnico idea is intriguing.

There’s a version of this called the holeshot (DD-5) that came from the custom shop on some Dean/DBZ guitars. It’s also slightly overwound.

I’ve always wanted one but never had the money when one came up. We should get a group buy here on the forum going for a run of them.

The Custom has too much bass to handle so much power ...

A simple cap across the coils like the Invader neck could easily remedy this problem.

Isn't that the deal with the Gibson Dirty Fingers. 3 ceramics?

I've done triple ceramic, alnico in the center with ceramic flanks, and double thick alnico. Triple ceramic is hella hot, alnico in the center is good because it stays organic with some ceramic bite, and double thick alnico is awesome because it's hotter and juicier.

And the Invader and Black Winter. And the 500T.

BW is three ceramics? Didn’t know that. FWIW Mine don’t seem any hotter compared to Distortion or Custom or 500T. It’s a very flat sterile pickup, IME.

My BW-equipped guitar doesn't feel much hotter than my other guitar with a Distortion, but when I track DI's, I can see it's definitely hotter than the DD in the waveform.

Does anyone have a source for the thick ceramics? Besides buying 12$ import pickup sets from amazon and cannibalizing?

***EDIT: I found some on Mojotone, but they're a tad long. might work anyway... https://www.mojotone.com/Pickups_x/P...gnet-2-60-Long

Sorry I haven’t. I don’t happen to have an invader. Reviews tend to regard the invader as pretty “thick” sounding and that isn’t a direction I’ve wanted to go, yet.

I have an invader in a firebird type guitar, and a black winter in an SG. Probably not the best basis for comparison, but they are similar. The Invader is darker, the mid range is about the same. I removed the big hex caps from the Invader and replaced them with dimarzio style set screws and now they sound even closer. The invader is still darker though. Could be the difference in guitars i suppose
