  • Quarter Pounders

    Hello all.
I recently purchased QPs for my Vintage Modified 70s jazz bass. The neck p/u is much louder than the bridge p/u. I have adjusted the neck p/u so that it's further away from the strings. Is it normal for the neck p/u to be that much hotter?
    Thanks.

Unless you wind the bridge hotter that’s what happens. There’s more string movement over the neck pickup

even if the bridge is wound hotter, typically you still would set the neck pup lower to balance the relative volumes

Many people have used the Hot Stack in the bridge to balance with QPs in the middle. You get hum cancelling in every position, too.

the hot jazz has a good amount of output, the hot stack is noticeably lower in output but if you set the qp very low the stack high the tonal balance is nice
