  • Bought some Slate Digital Plug-ins.

    Went with his Everything Bundle.

I still have a lot of learning to do with these plugins, and mixing in general. Having never used the classic outboard gear these plugins are emulating, I’m not sure if they’re exactly like the real thing, but there is some real good tone shaping in what I’ve messed around with so far.
Love the SSL eq, and the “Blue Stripe” compressor. Their “Distressor” is a lot of fun as well.

Very biohazard-y I like it, but I like the 2nd (previous) clip more.

Yes the Steven Slate plugins are awesome.

Isn't tweaking **** in the DAW a lotta fun?

Slate stuff is good shi*t, even though I don't own any myself.

A compression tip for more upfront vocals is to first hit it with something fast, like an 1176, just to take the peaks, then run something like an LA-2A (not sure if Slate has a model for this? Something similiar most likely) to then smooth the rest of it out and bring it upfront.

Sounds like you wen't a little heavy handed there on the compression, especially on the drums...but hey, half the fun is overdoing it just to real it back a bit.
        TOUQUE ROCK...EH???? I AM CANADIAN

I’ve got the Steven Slate drums...can’t say enough good about them.

Yeah, it ended up kind of thin. But I always felt the original had a blanket over it.

Stripped it down to the bare tracks tonight and started over.

High passed the guitars to get rid of some of the mud. Now I need to work on the kick. Probably going to throw some samples underneath.

Hard to say for sure, but wonder what the guitars would sound like with just a hair (+1.5dB) of 4KHz and a drop in 500Hz by maybe 3dB?
