Good choice....Dean is definitely a viable builder in this market. Have no worries about it’s quality.

I was mistaken about the model that I posted. It was after a day of looking at bashes, but here is the actual guitar. It's a Dean Sledge Hammer made in 2008. It has a single pickup but its specs out otherwise like the one I posted. I havent given it to her yet. I'm going to find an amp before I surprise her with it. It's a really cool bass. I'm excited for her.

            Nice!
Have you decided on an amp yet?

              Re: Daughter wants a bass.

This is exactly what I'd buy her.

Great used bass with small neck for $300. It also has active electronics.

I'd also say to forget the amp for now. Get her some good headphones and this. https://www.musiciansfriend.com/ampl...p-di-box-pedal

I have that exact same bass, and that exact same pedal. As long as there was a decent PA, I could play any gig in the world with those two things.

                Re: Daughter wants a bass.

Too late. Already bought the Dean. She looked at about 10 other basses after and every one she said "it's nice but I like the Dean better". I may have been able to get a better deal, but this is a nice bass and it's the one she chose.

No. I haven't. I am probably going to get one from zzounds on a payment plan but not sure which. I want a smallish combo with an output and a headphone jack, like maybe a fender rumble or Ampeg BA. Open for suggestions

Maybe one of the Hartke kick back combos, or Peavey or even GK.
It's been a while since I went shopping for one, but they could be worth checking out.

The fender rumble is a great little amp.

                        Re: Daughter wants a bass.

A few of the women I know that play bass use short scale basses, like Fender Mustangs. Fits their hands better.

But a woman I’m dating plays a Tobias 5 string. But she’s also very tall. Lol

Does she want it to play live or just for recording at home? Live without a PA I would put enough money on the amp so she can be heard in the band, other wise if she is focused on playing bass for home recording I would put most of the money on a nice sounding bass.

Jackson Series Spectra JS2 and Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special SS. I bought them to my sons and they are pleased with them.
