Trumpet oil works really well with removing sticker/tape residue. Used to do it all the time when cleaning used guitars at a shop in the 90's. A soft polishing cloth with light movements after the trumpet oil soaks in to it will get it off easily. Then wipe off any excess and polish with another clean soft cloth.

I’ve seen it done successfully with a Gibson SG and LP. I’ve done it myself with stained decks from the 80’s with sticker residue. You warm up the residue until you can roll it up into a ball.

This is much more effective than not being a complete dickhole.

I usually draw a bit of benzine/ gas from the tank of motorcycle for case like this. It melts the glue right away. Easy peasy.

                    Naphtha
                    Paint thinner
                    Lighter fluid
                    Gasoline
                    Oil
                    Goo gone
                    WD 40

Follow up any of these with alcohol and a soft cloth to remove any oily residue.

Cooking oil is great for removing tape residue. Worked perfectly when I needed to get duck tape glue off my car. And it won't damage the finish.

TS/OP -Many of the lighter fluids at a gas station are Naptha. Just buy one -just make sure it's not butane.

also, regular Goo Gone is Naptha or a similar Petroleum Distillate with Citris additive.
