A good friend of mine is a former Catalinbread dealer who dropped them over how Nic's mother handled the company.

Which is why many people play electric guitars but very very few of them are actually musicians.

            You probably remember this, right?
Nicholas Harris, founder of Catalinbread Effects, died on Wednesday after a tree fell onto his car according to a report from oregonlive.com.

His mother inherited the company, but not knowing anything about the company needed the current employees to run it. They tried to negotiate a purchase of the company from Nic’s mom, but she didn’t want to sell. She also wanted to run it in a way they didn’t like. So they all left to make their own company. She sued saying that they can’t start a new company because anything they design would be her intellectual property. (Also with no one to run the company she was in a bind).

In the meantime she’s hired some people to continue to run the company (I assume it’s all contract manufacturing, and look how few new designs have come out since 2017). Now they have some sort of settlement for them to all move forward.

I wondered what happened to Catalinbread after Harris died. Howard Gee seems like a cool dude and I'm gonna keep an eye on what he's doing.

That's really sad, they were a great company.

So what is the final outcome? She can sue all she wants, but in the end one has to have proof.

Man - don't you hate it when a spouse or some hanger-on gets all up in the mix and ruins a company?

"Hey everyone. The lawsuit with Catalinbread is over. Here is our official statement:

Both parties involved would like to announce that the legal dispute between Catalinbread and its former employees has been settled. We are all glad to have arrived at a mutually agreeable accord, and to be moving forward with our respective endeavors. We share a combined pride in our previous work together, and are glad to have put this difficult situation behind us. Each of us would like to wish the other party peace and good luck."
