  • New Amp Day!

Got this off reverb tonight.... So I am now an official EG-head.

I've Spent 40 minutes with it tonight, right out of the box, and am very pleased so far.

    Initial Thoughts:
Footswitch controls many things, from channel, to solo level, reverb, adds or subtracts mids from both channels and effects loop levels for each channel!

There are many voice changes by changing the mid switches.

When you turn it up, it Really Roars.

    Dropped tuning sounds really good.

It's way different voicing than a Marshall or a Mesa or a Peavey, it's very much an individual sound.

There is the tiniest fluzzy/buzzy high freq in the speakers if I have it turned pretty low and the brightness too high.

Was just playing the RH200 that I got from you a few years ago.
Can't understand why you got rid of that, but, my gain.

Worked with it for almost an hour last night.
Got a few tones closer to dialed in.

Here's a taste, please excuse the sloppy playing.

So when I emailed the tech guy about valve assignments, he sent me this:

I am assuming that if I want to change the gain in the dirty channel (2) then I need to swap new tubes into V3 and V4.

                          Am I reading this correctly?

Or do I swap different tubes into V1 and V3 and V4?

What tubes does it have now? If it's running something like Rubys or Tung-Sols, there may not be much of anything available with higher gain. The Egnater OEM tubes in my Tweaker were Sovtek 12AX7As, and those would leave you with several higher-gain options.

Based on that diagram, V1 is going to have the most effect so I would plan on swapping it unless your "clean" channel is already too dirty. Swapping V3 and V4 alone should help, but it won't make much difference if there isn't a strong enough signal from V1A.

Which is why many people play electric guitars but very very few of them are actually musicians.
