That's what I've read too. Ebony board instead of rosewood, is a huge bonus for me.

      Well she's home now.

These pickups aren't bad at all, whatever they are
Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers.... Gibson 57+ copies from what I've read

Nice well rounded sound, not as punchy as most of my other pups, but they don't feed back much and they have a delightful tone.

This Neck is just a touch fatter than my goth explorer, and it's heavier too. But I think she's sexy!

Congrats!!! I love the Tommy Thayer explorer and the Lzzy one too. I personally just wasnt crazy about the gold pickguard. Yours looks amazing with that guard! I didnt know they offered an option. Or did you just buy and change?

Yes, I was surprised when I read the Epi has ebony and the Gibby didnt..
Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

So from what I've learned..... Either they took a bunch of lzzy Hale models and refurbed them with pearloid OR they took some regular Alpine models and outfitted them with gold pups and hardware's.... I think it's the first one.

It's funny though, the case has the halestorm logo literally hacked out with a razor blade and the sig on the truss rod cover is swapped.... So even though it's a Lzzy Hale model, it's either a custom model and can't carry the name, or it's no longer a lzzy model even though it really is... I don't really care either way, as long as it's sexy and plays well.

Has to be some kind of legalistic or licensing thing I'd guess. Maybe they made too many,or released too many I have no idea.
Either way, I like this model better than the gold pickguard for sure.
Tonight I'm going to swap the truss rod cover and get an hour of play time on it.
          I love it so far.

If you are starting down an Epi Explorer collection path...may I suggest the Silverburst Thunderhorse as a companion?

I Love the Epiphone explorer especially this one! not only because i am a dethklok fan.

But there is nothing more sexy than a silveburst finish

for me personally explorer type guitars are really comfortable to play, too.

                      Congrats on this one!

Tonight she got new strings, 11-54.
Drop B tuning, and once strings stretched in, intonated.
                        She sounds much better now.

Still going to need new pickups eventually.
Looking at ahb-1s, emg-x, or fishmans. Have to be gold.

Too bad they have to be gold, because I would recommend Lace Deathbuckers.

                            I've never tried lace before.

I put en mail into Duncan custom shop to ask about Mick Thompson ahb-3s in gold, but due to licensing issues they can't make em.

So either ahb-1 blackouts or emg-x or maybe try fishmans.

I support you on the 'buying of the guitar' thing... but I cannot condone the 'selling of guitars'. For those who are contemplating such reckless behavior... I have tried it... it's not all it's cracked up to be.
