    Re: NGD: The Gold Standard

I will say this: i hadn't really been gasing for a goldtop until seeing this post. I am peobably going to buy one (at retail) in a few months because seeing this one has given me an itch. So, yeah, its not a complete loss on their part.

No Effs are given about the morality here. Bruce, I'll send you some Jack Daniels and Ambien if keeps you up at night....
Yes, that's correct. Except, nobody forces anyone to shop there.

Yes you are correct...the seller IS responsible. And in this case they DID take that responsibility seriously. I also honor any of my advertised prices no matter who may have made a pricing mistake.

However, you are confusing the issue of "legally 'ethical'" and "morally ethical". The meaning of ethics goes way further than just abiding by any LEGAL parameters.

Retailers know they have high and low-value customers. There are bargain hunters that will only shop for clearance items and deals. Retailers know they will take a loss on these customers. The low-value customers are offset by the high-value customers who spend large amounts of capital and buy everything they see. In some ways retail is like a casino, some walk through the doors with a win others with a loss. These wins-losses are built into their prices, the house always wins.

In regards to the law, you are wrong once again. My only recourse would not be to sue the retailer. As consumers, we have protections and resources available to us. On the state level, it is our Attorney General's office on the federal level it is the FTC. A complaint can be filed with either body online within minutes. Once a complaint is filed (for free) it is the decision of that body which party is in the right and if restitution should be made to the consumer. The retailer honored the price not because they were willing to, but because they had to. Please remember they offered me a $200 gift card originally. If I did not know the laws and my rights as a consumer once again the house would have won.

Also, I think you need to look up the definition of "ethical", "conforming to accepted standards of conduct". None of my conduct was deceitful, dishonest or calculated. I saw a guitar I was interested in, inquired and ultimately purchased. If you are not comfortable with the pricing, purchase or process that is on you, and your "high moral standards".
That's right, you never asked for my support nor my moral narrative. Neither does a thief ASK to be caught.

For your information, I AM a retailer and have been one for longer than you have been able to look up any info on the internet or read a dictionary. I absolutely know about the laws. And I probably know a whole lot more about retailers than YOU. I sell a lot of products and services at a loss knowing that I will make it up on other products and services. BUT, this is totally by my choice, not by law, not by extortion, and certainly not by a customer bullying me. I was looking at the potential options for the seller, not the buyer.

And you are mistaken about the MEANING of ethics. Yes the definition is..."Ethics is defined as a moral philosophy or code of morals practiced by a person or group of people". The key words here are "morals" and "practiced" and the inference that ethics is dependent on the actions (as in "practiced") of a particular group of people. Therefore there can not be a precise definition because it can be different for different groups of people and in different times. It is ever-changing. The group of people (usually from Nigeria) who scam people out of thousands of dollars would, by definition, be very ethical in what they do...even though we may consider it taking advantage of people and outright stealing. Gangs who practice their street knockout games with the result of death of their victims sometimes can also be considered "ethical" by this definition even though we would consider it first degree murder.

But you ENTIRELY missed the point of it not being "right" from a moral standpoint

And you'll notice that in my post I was not directing my comments to YOU. But now, that I am hearing your particular rationalization for your "purchase" and your attack on me for my morals, I most certainly am.

Dude are you for real? If you do not approve of the purchase don't open the thread and comment. Are you that much of a head case that you think I care WTF you think.

                      Interesting...

I'd like to say that I am behind this intricately complex and ethical-landmine purchase decision 100%.

I'll bet many nights were spent lying awake, sweating bullets over the moral conundrum... "should I?" "why not?" "maybe I shouldn't" "nahh..."

In summation, to use a quote from a movie that should have won not one, but at least two Oscars for Best Actor(s):

UPS said it is getting delivered today buy the end of the day but the shipping information hasn't updated. I am going to hang out at work and get some work done until 6. If it is not here by then I am going home pissed. I have appointments all day tomorrow so I will be out when we get our usual UPS delivery. UPS online keeps saying it is one town over.

My boss just stopped by my office he is waiting on a powered speaker for his keyboard setup. He is a bit ticked with UPS right now himself. I am not waiting here until 8, no way.
