  • Low A bottoming out whole PA System?

Started playing Bass this past week with the worship team at church. Running direct into PA System and using IEMs.

Anyways...when I hit a low A, the whole sound system just makes the worst "bottoming out" noise I've heard, including in my in ear monitors. It's only that note though? I can play lower notes on my top string and it's fine?

Any ideas as to the cause and fix?

A well-set limiter on the whole mix will prevent that, as well as a multi-band compressor. It isn't so much your problem, as the soundperson's.

How is the EQ set on the board? They might have that band up too high

so thats around 55hz, right? check the 55hz and 110hz bands. does that string sound louder on other notes or just that one?

Just that one single note/fret on the whole bass.

I'll check all the suggestions out with the soundman Sunday morning.

          THANKS FELLAS!

          Miss you guys!

It might be that your low A is a resonant frequency that's interfering with something.

i was thinkin the same but if its the ears and the mains then id be surprised if they had the same res freq. the sound guy should be able to figure it out pretty quick if they have a decent digi board

They haven't really had to eq for a bass in a while.

Low A? 55hz (about 20 ft in length) -I'm wondering if the room you're in has a dimension of about 10, 20ft or 40ft dimension either floor to ceiling or width length etc and you are getting a big fat standing wave from the resonant frequency of the room.

Also, doesn't happen at home, through my Amp.
