I've had the Analog Chorus (the blue box with five knobs). Kinda meh. It sound like a chorus, but nothing particularly stands out about it.

Do the ones with the volume knob boost, or only cut volume?

    Default MXR chorus pedals

I have the stereo chorus. Amazing, lot of control. Does just about anything you want to do from the “chorus” era of popular music. (About 1978-1989 or thereabouts). Even does a reasonable Leslie sound when set right.

I once found a guitar amp in the garbage, a Peavey Studio 110. It caught fire at the first gig I played it at.. But it was at the end of it, thank god.

    Nothing EVH except the Phaser.

Other guitar player has the newer box. It's ok.

Not a fan of MXR chorus/flange myself....

I like a little chorus. I tend to use it like Pat Metheny uses it. Very subtle.

I use the EVH 5150 for that and it's perfect for that. It can get pretty wild and swimmy if that's the choral effect you want, but I keep the intensity pretty low and I can even use it as an "on all the time" pedal.

Check out Pete Thorn's demo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...ature=emb_logo

I've read that Mike Stern uses the TC Corona Chorus. That's a pretty good one too. Larry Carlton has used the Visual Sound Liquid Chorus on his "traveling pedal board" and that's a nice one too.

I'm very happy with the EVH 5150 Chorus and stopped searching when I bought that one.

The yellow one is great but large and requires 18vdc. Not inexpensive.

The small blue one is great sounding (slightly more subtle than the yellow model), but slightly sucks tone when off. It is a tremendous value at roughly $90 new.

The EVH sounds great to me on YouTube (I’ve never tried it in person or even seen one in the wild), but it’s $200 and, for that price, you should just get the Boss CE-2w instead. Ymmv.

And why not buy all the chorus pedals?

I tried one of these Catalina pedals out last year and really dug it. I thought it sounded really nice and liked the extra features it had compared to other chorus pedals I've tried.

I have a Boss CE-5 which is a pretty cool pedal as well. I have tried the yellow MXR stereo chorus pedal also.

I had mostly gotten rid of all chorus playing until I got a Catalina. It hasn't replaced my love of the phaser as my current choice of modulation, but it is a good 2nd.

Good question. I was wondering how differs the yellow and blue MXR chorus (part from the fact that the big yellow is stereo).

I like their 4 knobs Flanger BTW.

I got the Analog Chorus. It’s great. The low and high cut knobs do things I didn’t even know I wanted a chorus to do. It’s very adjustable. I really like the low rate, high depth setting. The sound is warm and liquid. The blue LED is blinding.

I'm not saying don't consider them. But seriously, when you say chorus, MXR does not even jump into the 2nd tier of "OMG - Yeah - Chorus! Check out [insert brand]!!!!"
