  • It happened again... NAD!

I didn't expect this to happen but if there's anyone who needs the "Keith" amp it's me. I present, the Fender Custom '57 Twin RI! (Yes I know Keith plays high power 1959 Twins, but this is as close as I'm ever going to come).

Local sale, great price, and excellent condition. About 10 years old from what I can tell (has the metal "tube cage" but predates the rubber "switch condoms"). Eminence made "Weber designed" alnico speakers.

What can I say? It's got THE tone. Sounds fantastic!

I already have a 5F6-A Bassman and I was worried the Twin would sound too similar to justify buying it. They are not the same. I mean, they're both Tweeds but they each sound like their own thing.

I already removed the tube cage.

Specs say 53lbs. Removing the tube cage is at least 1lb. It's actually pretty manageable. Better than dragging the Vibro-King out of the house though!

I have one of those. Much much more than a Keef amp. Clapper amp too. And can sound Marshall-y when set up certain ways. Nice score!

I was in a local shop recently, and the owner wouldn't even give a potential seller a price for a Twin, saying there would be no way he could sell it. I hope you got a good deal on a great amp because people don't know what they're missing.

It is a good 'leave in one place and admire it' amp.

Probably why you see pros using them is they have road crews to move them.

That's a beautiful amp. How loud does it have to get before it starts giving up the goods?

I'd think it would have to be really loud. My guess is 6 or 7. But I'd love to know, too.

Here's the thing, I swapped 3 of the preamp tubes from 12ax7 to 12ay7 but the side effect is that it doesn't dirty up until its turned basically to 10 or 11. And even then it's not full out driving.

But yeah, like any non-master volume amp its loud before it goes into breakup.
