  • Tube Screamer or Boss Distortion

First tube amp on its way...Marshall DSL 20 CR. I want a boost type pedal and was considering the Tube Screamer or Boss Distortion. Anyone have a preference between these two?

If you get both they work really well together.

The question you must ask is if you want more or less minds. A Tubescreamer has a mid boost, a DS-1 has a mid scoop.
You will never understand How it feels to live your life With no meaning or control And with nowhere left to go You are amazed that they exist And they burn so bright
Whilst you can only wonder why

Tube screamer is my vote, if you're on a budget I strongly recommend the ehx East River drive.

Personally, I'd give up my DS-1 before I gave up my TS-9. So I'd say TS.

I've used a Boss SD-1 with great results through my DSL20HR. I switched to a Caline Pegasus (Klone) since for a different flavor but I'd go back in a heartbeat. The SD-1 is very similar to the Tube Screamer, only with asymmetrical clipping.

TS, for me, absolutely, but make sure you seek one out with more than just a single tone control.

SD-1, or a TS with an EQ pedal after it...

Re: Tube Screamer or Boss Distortion

Question; Are you pushing a low distortion setting/breakup into more distortion/breakup, or are you taking a medium-high distortion sound into high/uber distortion?

I'd play the Marshall for a bit and decide if you really need either.

Find a used duncan 805. It's a screamer with greater control.
