  • Stool or chair for playing

So, once our new place is done, I'll have an area specific for guitars, amps, etc. And I'd like to invest in a stool or chair to use specifically for playing guitar.
My knees bother me too bad to stand and play for long periods.
I was thinking maybe just a 24" saddle type barstool, but I'm curious what other people are using and what you guys reccomend?

The best I've found are drum thrones with small of the back rests.

Re: Stool or chair for playing

my buddy and I were discussing this exact thing Friday

I had a tall barstool that I could prop up on while playing

it was about 30 inches tall
where my knees didn't bend so much when sitting on it

I used it until one day
i had become comfortable with it
      and went to prop up
and the durned thing slid on the hardwood floor
and I almost fell with my favorite guitar

      last time

      either sit or stand
      not prop

I would get one of the computer chairs with arms you can swing out of the way

Just take the arms off any office chair, and they work great.

I use a standard armless computer chair in my office/music room.
For rehearsal or gigs I just stand.

I use a drum throne, an armless office chair, and a Gator stool with a guitar stool built in. Most bar stools are too tall for me (I am 5'7", so I can't reach pedals).

Mine doubles as computer chair and I sometimes spend long hours in it. Best option for me seems to be a gaming chair - comfy office type chair with arms that fold down out of the way.

I haven't seen a whole lot of gaming chairs with arms that fold. If you come across some, let me know.

I use an adjustable padded piano stool. Very close to a drum stool but rectangular.

Drafting stool, armless (or movable arms) computer chair, or drum throne

I like the simplicity of classic stools, but they're not very comfortable for long periods.
