The ergonomics are unquestionably better for me, though I admit I am uncertain about the looks. I have always wanted a guitar with reflector top hats, though I don’t know if this is the one. But it looks great about half the times I look at it, so that’s not bad.

It didn't occur to me before but the Epi g400 I just got at the same time as the LPJr has those exact same reflectors and I do notice the different slope on the sides of the knobs. I have no preference ergonomically.

As for looks, I think maybe our eyes are trained from what we've usually seen - SGs have reflectors, LPs have bell knobs. I think both look fine but I will keep both as is. Although I am going to be gutting the Epi for some '59s. I have new CTS pots and smooth spline reflectors to go with them. But I am wondering if the factory CTS really need to be replaced, which includes reaming the shaft holes to 3/8". I have no complaints about the taper and the rotational stiffness is comfy. I've got to get inside and see what kind of readings I get from them.

yes I am, but that doesn't change the fact that speed knobs look dumb on an LP Special or Jr.

I prefer the look of the stock knobs. But for ease of turning you can't beat Tele dome knobs.
Been thinking about a set of those for my Special.

    I must disagree here.

Look, who am I to tear down the mental fortress protecting your decision to put a turd in a gourmet meal.

I kid I kid. Speed knobs are fine.

It's not the look of them that make them ugly -it's so many guitars that have them where the there is a 1/4" gap from the body which makes them look like teetering thumb tacks.

I think it's because at Gibson they would cut the body cavity too thin and then use the regular length shaft on a pot without the right washer/lock washer stack. -but damn so many Gibsons had weird whirling dervish looking speed knobs in recent decades -I actually didn't see this issue on the 2018s or 19s at CES and the Guitar shows.

Ha. Clearly you and Ed didn't bother reading my whole post -which was admittedly long winded and Ed's from Alabama so

Your guitar looks great -because your speed knobs are not egregiously high off the face of the guitar body.

My problem with speed knobs (and really with any knob -but Gibson did it with speed knobs way more than any other knobs) is when the pot shaft, washer combo and cavity body wall thickness isn't combined right -and you have the speed knobs floating above the guitar body -gross.

But you got it down low sexy style -so no issue.

Yeah, all that takes to fix is a washer or 2 inside the cavity to limit amount of shaft that is exposed outside the body.

Agree speed knobs look good here

From online photos and reviews, the Epi tip is black, while the Gibby is cream. The Epi poker chip is supposed to have silver lettering, while the Gibson is gold.

Some recent photos, seems Epiphone changed them to match the Gibson colors, but it was cheap for me to get the stuff. Got some cheap cream tips for metric switch too, if the Gibson one doesn't fit.

I just bought one of these bad boys and will be taking delivery today. I'm getting locking tuners for it. Does anyone know if the headstock tuning machine holes are 11/32" (8mm) vintage or 25/64" (10mm) modern?
