  • Blackstar HT5RH MKII

I’ve been looking at getting a small valve head for home/Studio use and saw the MKII HT5 head. I’ve read the office blurb but couldn’t see answers to the following questions.

    1) The official website says the speaker can be 4-16 ohms, but on the picture of the back of the head it shows 8 & 16 ohms.

    2) There is no standby on this model, so can the head be used with just headphones without the cab.

    3) Is there any was to turn off the cab sim on the XLR out.

    Thanks.

from what I could see in the manual above

    1) 8 ohm is the minimum , BTW I looked at the main website here https://www.blackstaramps.com/uk/ranges/ht-5r-mkii
and could not find anywhere that said 4 ohm was acceptable. use at least an 8 ohm speaker

    2) you can never use a tube amp without the cab. it must have a load for the transformers

    3) doesnt look like it

    I have a Bugera G5 head

its a clone of the Blackstar with some improvements

it still requires at least and 8 ohm speaker attached whenever it is powered up
even when in standby ( it has a standby switch )

    they are expensive $350 new
    cheap $200 used

    EDIT

oh and if you dont want the speaker emulation on either one
just use the effects loop send
and nothing in the return that would be just the preamp out with out the amp emulation

still need a speaker plugged in regardless

The answer to this question is "yes" as it is one of the models that Blackstar makes that has the ability to run effectively without a speaker connected.
