  • DOD 250 - anyone has experiences with this one?

    I've been wondering about this pedal-

    Since my clean channel, doesn't do much more than "clean"-

    and the drive channel doesn't go lower than "crunch"-

    I've considered a DOD 250 preamp/overdrive;

    to get a "third channel"; and thicken the clean channel.

    Anyone tried/used/owned this pedal?

      Or, if if anyone could give me a reccomendation-

      for a pedal that will thicken, compress, and add some "fatness" to a clean channel, preferably without too much distortion,

      please tell.

        That’s a recipe for a a Tube Screamer/SD-1 in my book...

          Yep, you're looking for more of a TS9/SD-1 kinda pedal. I don't think the DOD will get you what you want, it's pretty much the same circuit as a MXR Distortion+.

            The 250 is fun. BYOC has a kit that's called something like 250+. It comes with enough components and instructions to build three styles of it.

            It was actually the first pedal I ever built, and if I remember right, I preferred the asymmetrical clipping, and I did use the LED.

            Even if it's not exactly what you want, it's a fun circuit to learn.

              Joyo Vintage Overdrive that I've got recently is a great TS clone. And cheap!

              If you want more tweakability, check out Voodoo's Sparkle Drive Mod. That's a good one. A bit pricey tho.

                ^^ ok, thanks you all

                I got a Joyo "nascar" analog delay, it's my favourite pedal;

                so it's likely that I'll get more Joyo products.

                  Ok. I won't start more threads about this quest;

                  I'll do my research;

                  Hopefully, I'll find "the magic pedal", that gives me compression, overtones, makes the guitar sing .

                  The Effectrode Blackbird preamp, is the one I really want- but it'll set me back 4-5 months of saving money . But maybe it's worth it?! I think so!!

                    Fact.
                    I have the DOD YJM308 and modded it to so I an get original DOD 250 specs so both sounds are housed in the same box and are accecible through a 2-way switch.
                    A good TS clone would be a better option for you indeed.

                      I still use one. Here is an old video of me with a DOD 250 and a Randell 100w orange stripe head

                        The DOD Overdrive/Preamp 250 was my first distortion pedal. Bought it because a friend had one and his sounded great through a Silverface Twin. To this day, it is still one of my favorites. To me, it's like a TS-9 but with more gain. That's always been my hangup with the Tube Screamers. I wish they had more gain.

                          Some people use Klons/Klones for that reason.
