It is kinda cool in its own way. More like gas on the street running down a drain.

The finish on the headstock came out pretty well. But, is there a reason why you didn't shape it a bit?

Looks like you could easily make the headstock into a Fender-esque profile or something similar that's not so "paddle"-like. Just my 2-cents

Probably just playing it safe and staying away from Gibson's lawyers! Cuz Gibson invented EVERY headstock shape....just ask em.

I had originally intended to, but my daughter was pretty anxious about getting the guitar painted, and explaining that to a kid under 3 doesn't really work in my experience. As it was any time I got a package in for the guitar she was sad that we weren't working on it yet.

                I like it
It may have turned out better with a lighter base

But a coat of 2K clear and a buff
                And who knows
                May just pop

I like that better than the typical swirl finishes.

The pearl that I mixed is made for a black base. But the clear I mixed it with might not have been able to hold onto the flake, or I needed to spray it on the surface. Either day when that flake is sprayed on white it more looks like off color white pearl. Which actually would be kind of cool. But I think the contrast with the black is what makes it stand out. The plan now is to do the clear. The front of the peg head is the only part with finish so far, so the neck will be clear over mahogany.

I think that, even if it's not exactly what you hoped for, it's unique. And I agree that it could really pop once you finish it.
I can only imagine that having the pigments settle too quickly was a pita

Yeah I was pretty bummed about it, it was a supposed to be 2 color shift pearls, red/blue/purple and yellow/green. I figured the contrast between the dark and light would be nice, and both color shifting at the same time would be neat. But seeing the flake just fall to the bottom of the tub was disheartening. And trying to explain to my kid was kind of a pain. I told my wife I need to get a sprayer and she rolled her eyes at me, but she didn't say no...

I'm thinking that specific paints are used in the process that have similar specific gravities so that one pigment doesn't just sink to the bottom.

That makes sense. But I also didn't want to spend 100 bucks for a gallon that the company was selling. But I don't typically use poly so getting a whole gallon seems like a bad investment
