  • Tuning locking tremolo with a block

Is there a risk of damaging the guitar or tremolo system if you block the tremolo so you can balance it while you tune your guitar?

As long as you don't block it with an object that will chip/dent/scrape the surface of your guitar, it's safe.

When you remove the block it will not be in tune.

When I've worked on them, I used a block to center the trem parallel with the top.

Yep, blocking the bridge to keep it level while working on stuff like intonation or neck relief is one thing.
But blocking it while tuning up is likely to mess with your pitch when you remove the block.
