  • Help needed to ID unknown Les Paul please.

    Hello all Gibson LP gurus.

Need urgent help to try and ID this unknown (entry level ?) LP.

The seller is asking a whopping $940.00 USD.

    What is it ?
    From what year ?
What is a decent asking price ?

All info will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Help needed to ID unknown Les Paul please.

I am not even an amateur of Gibsons, but somehow I feel like I can read "The Paul" under the Les Paul sig on the headstock. But given the state it's in, I'm pretty positive that it is not worth 940. I'd offer him 490. But I really don't know what to look for on specific LP models, I went by a gut feeling and general condition...

        Is that a tummy cut?

I'm not aware of any Gibson having one of those

The Paul II was a lower-end Gibson with a thinner body than most Les Pauls based off Gibson's Firebrand 'The Paul' guitar from the early '80s.  In 1998, the model was updated as The Paul SL before being discontinued. Years of Production: 1996 - 1998

This one looks similar and has the tummy cut too.

It checks out to me as a The Paul II.

Is there some reason you want this particular guitar? The reason I ask is that a brand new Gibson "entry level" LP can be had, from a reputable dealer, for about $60 more.

I too was unaware of such a feature on a Les Paul model.

As I remember, Gibson's "The Paul" did indeed have a tummy cut, and was thinner than a Les Paul.

You can get a nice LP Studio with lots more feature for $700 to $900.

I would pass on that one.

Why does the OP one have the Les Paul signature and the Reverb listing have a plain headstock? Something seems a little odd. They changed the headstock during the run?
