Just spent a few hours out in the garage sweating my balls off...playing the new SG.
It plays well enough, neck feels like my Gibby V maybe a tad fatter. Which I really love!
I Ran through all of paranoid and Sabbath bloody Sabbath, then through the only ac-dc album I can stand Flick of the switch. This things sounds really good. A lot like the faded V, a bit articulate with the Gibson pups. (I should have never sold the 500t out of my V. I've put a couple different Duncan's in it, a black winter lives there now, brutz, but not as "correct" as it was.)

I like this 490t so far. It breathes with the guitar, is very sensitive to the strength and aggressive picking, squeals when I need it, but it's quite demure compared to say an sh6. It's got a classy Air to it.

That looks and sounds great, right in front of those Marshalls, where it should be!

Re: New ROUND guitar day..... Of all the things to type....

Played it a lot more tonight. It needs a better pickup.
I am finding the 490 a bit shrill.... maybe underpowered.
I ordered a tb6 from mastaC can't wait to solder that into this. It does play very well btw. I found a lot of good notes at my concert tonight...in the garage... I figured about 5k ppl showed up, sounded pretty good once I dialed the amp in to fit this guitars profile.
                  Good night indeed.

Re: New ROUND guitar day..... Of all the things to type....

SGs are probably my favorite guitars overall. I have two of them and most of my other guitars are really similar, like Les Pauls or ES's or my new V. When I'm at a local show seeing bands I've never heard of and somebody steps on stage with an SG I pretty much expect them to be good. If I'm in a similar situation and they take the stage with thinline Telecasters or bad 90s metal axes I get apprehensive.

I think it looks so much better, and it will certainly stay in tune better.

I should have put this here instead of OT.

                        Spa-upgrade day for the Gibsons.
The faded V got new tuners....

Installed TB-6 into my SG. Added some red/black speed knobs, turned the main Volume into Dime styled traction knob with the help of my soldering iron.

I happened to get a real quick raw track recorded before and after the pickup swap for S and G's

See if you can hear the subtle differences in this short, completely unedited clip.
