Recording Help

Lately I've had issues with the way my stuff is recording. We've got a Boss digital studio that we record to. We've plugged directly into the studio and used its preset effects, we've plugged into the studio through an effects pedal(s), and we've miked our amps. Of the three, my favorite tone was when we miked the amps. However, under palm-muting, we got this "woof woof" sound only when we miked the amps.

Is this generally a problem associated with using a cheaper mic?
