1 Pickup & Switch wiring

Re: 1 Pickup & Switch wiring

series, split, parallel, other coil split are the basic choices

the only other options are out of phase with itself and thats not something that most people would find useful. personally i think its dreadful

Re: 1 Pickup & Switch wiring

Or, if you want to stick to a blade style switch you could wire a humbucker up to a 4-way and get series/south/parallel/north. You could do series, parallel, split to either coil, and OOP, but that would require a 4-pole 5-way switch, and like Jeremy, I don't find the OOP tone all that pleasant.

Re: 1 Pickup & Switch wiring

OK I shall stay away from OOP.. I would prefer to use a 5 way switch. at the moment I have the pickup wired direct to a toggle switch > volume > output, but I want to try some other switching options.

Also the hole for the toggle switch is gonna be used so I need to interate it all on a 5 way switch.

so any ideas for wiring... I think I could figure out the coil split.. but the parallel wiring I am unsure about.. series I am guessing is the standard wiring method.

Re: 1 Pickup & Switch wiring

Keep in mind you are severely limited with a 3T2P 5-way (this is a standard Fender 5-way). To do the series/south/parallel/north you'll need a 5T2P 5-way. The advantage that has is the ability to have one switch short to ground, thus acting like a kill switch.

Re: 1 Pickup & Switch wiring

I have a 3rd party type, and a jackson superswitch... just really trying to figure out what parallell does.. like for a split it sends one set of coils to ground.. if someone can explain what/where each wire is doing/going then I think I can adapt something!

Re: 1 Pickup & Switch wiring

to split to the north coil in a Duncan, the black needs to be switched to output and the white to ground. To split to the south coil in a duncan the red needs to be switched to output and the green to ground (the green in this case can be permanently grounded). For parallel operation with a Duncan black and red need to be switched to output while white and green go to ground.

Re: 1 Pickup & Switch wiring

I use this mod on some of my Tele's.

http://www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/triffic/index.php

Should also work with the two coils of a humbucker.

However, Hermetico has posted some cool diagrams using
a six position rotary switch that will give you all posibilities,
though not all combinations will be all that useful.

Cheers, Will.

Re: 1 Pickup & Switch wiring

does anyone have a diagram for a 5 way super switch, it has 4 poles and 5 terminals.

I tried wiring it up, but all I it seems to do is read full on or split on all positions :S... so not sure what I did.
