1 PUSH PUSH Volume Pot with Petrucci Wiring?

Hey All, I have a 2 Humbucker guitar:

Planning on installing 1 Volume Push-Push pot AND removing tone knob.

I have a 3 way Dimarzio EP1111 4PDT pickup switch.

Is it possible to split the Humbuckers in the middle position WITHOUT using a tone knob and ONLY using a Push-Push volume pot to coil tap the Humbuckers in the middle position?

I checked wiring diagrams on Dimarzio but they don't seem to have a diagram for a guitar with 1 volume pot and 0 Push Pull Tone Pots using EP1111 switch.

I didn't know if I should leave the tone knob in? I don't really use the tone knob that much and the way the guitar is setup the tone knob is cumbersome to push/pull when playing.

Before I do anything I was curious about this, if anyone has insight it would be much appreciated! Happy Friday! :)

Re: 1 PUSH PUSH Volume Pot with Petrucci Wiring?

The switch portion of a push pot is completely separate from the knob/rotating pot portion. So you can eliminate the tone pot, move all the connections that were on the tone push switch over to a volume push switch to have the same splitting capability, just on the volume knob instead.

I’m guessing you’re trying to have the option of coil split or the regular two humbucker combination in the middle position with a push push pot. Yes it’s possible. The wiring will be the same as a push pull dpdt pot. You’re just having the control on the volume pot instead of the tone pot.

You should look into maybe having a volume push push pot, the ep1111 switch, and a tone pot set up for something else, like a coil split or parallel switch. Or the cool Washburn mod that lets you use a stacked pot to get a variable series parallel mode for one of the humbuckers.

Do you know if there is a wiring diagram available for this modification. sounds very cool.
