1 spot + single coils = tons of noise?

I just got a 1 spot and up until now I was only playing my HB guitars and everything was great.

I just tried a strat and a split HB and I'm getting some serious noise with any single coil and my distortion or OD pedal. Mind you, this is at a fairly low volume level. If I play my Strat in pos 2 or 4 or a HB, no noise.

Is this normal or do I have a problem with my house wiring?

HELP!

You can mitigate single coil noise but not totally eliminate it. With shielding and grounding you can improve the signal to noise ratio.

It is possible that the one spot is bad, but I doubt it. I currently have 3 one spots (for 3 different boards) and quite honestly for what I am powering they work great! Single coil noise is always going to be there... With OD and distortion it becomes magnified. Get used to it or go back to buckers!

I tried the 1 spot a while back, and was real dissapointed by the amount of noise it introduced into my rig. Even playing with humbuckers, it was a noticable difference.

I switched to the Godlyke Power-all and don't have any complaints. It does what it says it does, and doesn't add any noticable noise. I've been wanting to shell out for a voodoo lab pedal power 2 for a while now though.

OneSpots are switching, so they by design can radiate lots of high frequency interference. Sometimes you run across a pedal that seems to be especially sensitive to it. Not to mention guitars.

+1 to that. My Fulltone clyde deluxe is really picky about what you plug into it with. With the 1 spot it was humming like crazy.

I've never cared about it at all. Except with P90s where it can be downright excessive...

BTW, the reason there is no noise in positions 2 and 4 is because your middle pickup is RWRP ;)

Shielding, is always a good solution w/some positive results.

The Electro Harmonix Hum Debugger comes out at the end of the month, I heard it's supposed to kill the 60 cycle hum, and any other noise coming in through your signal.

The only other solution at this point is the Suhr Backplate System, which works very well. (you would have to ditch the middle RW/RP pickup for a neck or non-reverse wound pup). It's also $250. I have it in one of my guitars, and highly recommend it.

When you are in positions 2 and 4, you are cancelling the hum, since you have a reverse wound/reverse polarity middle pickup, so it's cause you are using the 2 pickups at the same time that it cancels it.
