10" speaker recommendation

The stock speaker is definitely the weak link in my cheapo practice amp, I'm thinking about replacing it. It's a little spikey in the high end and gets blurry and flubby in the lows, as you'd expect a small magnet speaker in a open back cab with A tuned guitars going through it would. I'm not looking for studio quality, just better, maybe good enough for demo work. The clean channel is very bass amp like, and the high gain channel is fairly 5150-ish. I want to say a V30-ish speaker would do wonders for it, but I don't know what's out there. I don't want to spend much on it either. It's a 20 watt amp.

Any recommendations?

Re: 10" speaker recommendation

a great speaker , perfect for what you want , is a used old Pyle Driver 10".
What? , did I just say Pyle?
Yes, yes I did.
Some hack players, and one by the name of Derek Trucks use em. I got one in my current practice amp, an old Peavey Solid State Envoy 110, and it delivers the goods, especially bass.
If i actually practiced, it'd be about the best little speaker I've ever tried.

Re: 10" speaker recommendation

I just dropped a new WGS ET 10 into my 20 watt Boogie Subway Rocket last week and man what a difference!! Dropping in the ET 12 really woke that particular amp up with a vengeance!! It was this speaker I ordered it's a brand new model for WGS https://wgs4.com/10-et10-65-watts
Played it out in the amp at Church for the 1st time Sunday and this is a video clip. I am unmiced here running the little Rocket combo with the ET 10 playing my PRS CU 24 and using just a delay + Supernatural digital verb nothing else. Tone killed all day and this is not even broken in as it had less than 2 hours play on it here!

I like the Jenson MOD's (10/70's) in my 2x10 ..they sound huge.. (well balanced with plenty of bass) Cheap too..

Re: 10" speaker recommendation

I like the idea of the ET10, the ET65 gets a lot of run. That's at the high end of what I'm wanting to spend. I'll have to look into the jensens.

Anyone tried any of the eminence 10's for metal in a combo?

Re: 10" speaker recommendation

Hate to say it, but I can't hardly hear anything.
Sorry and I know what you are saying. I just started working with this church as of this service and the current sound system stinks. I am not running through the system and was guessing on how I was setting in the mix this clip should be better.
The other guy was running a Fender 1/10 Super Champ miked and his tone really STUNK! I was brought in to fix the system as well as play guitar so ---.

Re: 10" speaker recommendation

No biggie, I just figured that you would rather know. It can take some fiddling to get a good live mix recorded.

I like Jensens, nice and clear and even. Though I heard a demo with an Eminence Copperhead and Rajun Cajun and it sounded real nice. Real cutting top end that I have to believe would stand out in a mix.

Thanks for the comment man. I recorded it with my Zoom Q3HD on the mics in particular to get a real idea how the FOH live mix was. Shows i have some real work to do on this system. My guitar was not in the system and that little 1/10 combo was IMO the best sounding thing in the mix not a good thing!! Did show the real tone of the rig and in particular that WGS ET. In that little bitty box it sounds GREAT and in a bigger cab would KILL. The WGS ET 10 is one of the biggest sounding and tightest 10's at gain I have ever run.

Re: 10" speaker recommendation

im a big fan of weber 10's but if you want a v30 type sound get the celestion g10 vintage. same voice coil as a v30 but with a 10" cone. find a used one and it shouldnt cost ya much, they used to call it a vintage 10

Re: 10" speaker recommendation

I replaced the stock speaker in my Randall RVC with a Celestion G10 Greenback. I'm a huge Greenback fan, and this definitely has the chunky lower mids and sweet breakup which is why I love the 12" versions I own. The G10 Greenback does seem to have a little less going on up top and down low compared to an actual G12M, but it's still pretty damn chunky-sounding, especially for a 10". It's also cool because it does not have the fizzy platic-y highs with distortion that many budget 10" speakers have whatsoever.

My guess is the G10 Vintage is also cool. I wanted one, but the magnet on those is pretty humongous for a 10" and I'm pretty sure it won't fit in my amp.

Re: 10" speaker recommendation

Put an Eminence in it you wont be disappointed they are the best dude.

Re: 10" speaker recommendation

I'm between the G10 Vintage and the Mod 70, which ever I run across first will probably be the one.

Re: 10" speaker recommendation

there is no "best" its what suits you best. i have 10's from weber, eminence, celestion, jensen, and pyle and they are all great in their own way. they all have their purpose but what my lil buddy does, the p10q wont for example
