$100 Guitar Question

Gassing to put some parts to use to make another semi-custom guitar. Thought I would try the route of purchasing one of the inexpensive models out there for this project instead of purchasing either something used and abused from a pawn shop which would more than likely need a sand/paint & re-fret or the body and neck separately both options for considerably more cash than the total price of the low end model. Looking for an alder or ash model front routed body, hardtail would be my first choice with tremolo rout second with preferably a maple fretboard as a platform to start. Anyone with any history of one of the Rondo Music distributed SX models in either the Strat or Tele models? Any other distributors/models out there that I may have missed in the low end / high quality range? Any and all recommendations appreciated… thanks

Re: $100 Guitar Question

never seen the Rondo stuff myself.... but why not try some of the Squier stuff for a few bucks more.... Some of the Squier teles necks feel just as good as the MIM stuff..... Not sure how good the wood is in the bodies but some of the newer Squier stuff looks interesting for a low budget guitar.

Re: $100 Guitar Question

I played around with one of those $100 Epi Jr Specials and I was suprised at how resonant it was.

Re: $100 Guitar Question

just to clarify, the squire affinity series is the only one that (claims to) use alder for the body. The other models list basswood, agathis, or other odd things.

Re: $100 Guitar Question

thanks for the info... i'm leaning toward the SX, they say the body is solid and the photo's of the 3 tone sunburst model look good.. if the neck is decent, my plan is replace the pickups, phase switch, tap switch and should have a decent backup..

I got a Squier '51 because of this right here:

:eek2:

You should REALLY watch the above video and factor it into your decision.

I have several expensive guitars, listed in sig, but lo and behold I play my Squier '51 more than ANY of them. Seriously.

It's actually on my lap right now :laugh2:

I can't say enough about how much these guitars ROCK!

they do have nice tone out of the box..... now I'll have a do a builder and pick up one of those at the local guitar center or MF before they realize they are priced to cheap... dang the GAS has me in its clutches now....:cussing:

Re: $100 Guitar Question

AGREED; I was not even considering one of those beasts...... I was wrong....:smack:

I didn't even know about them until I heard a few forum bros say that they got one. I played one briefly and I thought it was a cool little axe, and you can't beat the price.

Btw, I believe a fellow member, CGord, has some clips over in the Tips and Clips room. He makes that guitar rock!
