Thinking of trying a 15 inch speaker set up with my Peavey Classic 50 - any advice/comments/suggestions?
Thanks

Re: 15 inch speaker

I love the idea of 15inch speakers !

MANY folks all over, says, 15inhcers are not a good idea, but soooo many of the bands i listen to, and friends use 'em with GREAT results !!!

A Peavey Classic is not the type of amp that i would pair w 15incher though, but you can deff try, seeing that they have a Peavey Bloues-something 30watter w a 1x15.

I would try a Mesa Dual Rec, or MATAMP GT1, or Electric USA, or Orange Thunderverb50, or even a Marshal VintageModern into a 2x15 cab !!!

Electric Amp USA makes a 2x15 (...and a 4x15 custom build if requested!)

I say, GO FOR IT !!!

Re: 15 inch speaker

ive never tried a guitar amp with a 15" that ive liked. for example, side by side comparison of a twin ri with two 12's and one with the 15" i much prefered the 12's. some people love em, some dont.

why not a classic 50? it should work just as well as anything.

the delta blues is the peavy that you are thinking about that has a 15". the amp is pretty similar to a classic 30. ive tried both the two 10" and 15" versions of the delta blues and i like the 10's better.

Peavey used to make a Classic 50 head and 2 matching cabs, one 4x10 and a 1x15. I think the results should be alright.

Re: 15 inch speaker

I have an Electro Voice SRO15 sitting in my closet... never heard it.

I have an EV 18 in an old Musicman cab. Opened up the back, and that mofo has AMAZING, beautiful tone. Big open roar. I generally use it with my 68 Bassman, but my Traynors kill with it too. I love the sound of 15s but don't have anything recorded with it, but there are a lot of similarities with the 18.

Here is the Bassman, EV in action.

Re: 15 inch speaker

Weber has some nice 15" models, everything from P15R lo-fi to D130F and EVM clones.
For big cleans, a good 15" in the right amp sounds incredible.

Re: 15 inch speaker

The only 15" speaker that I really liked is the one in the Showman cabinets. Its a JBL D-130F. Great sounding speaker, but I agree with Jeremy. I like the warmth of the 12's alittle more. The JBL D 130 is a real good speaker!

Here is a link to a video of Clapton playing his famous 335 through a Showman. I think this one had 2 of these 15's in it. great sound!

Thanks for the link. I listened to everything on your soundclick a week or so ago. It's really great, man!

Re: 15 inch speaker

EV 15's like the SRO and the later Force 15 are massive slammin guitar speakers.
Got to be matched with the right amp though.
The original Alnico Jensen 15 in the Tweed Pro is also awesome!
For cheap, you can find old Alnico Organ speakers that are low wattage and would work with an old Fender low powered design pretty well.

With that tweed circuit (5E5A etc), the P15N sounds amazing for certain kinds of tones...not the full blast 5E3 rock thing, but for anything from sweet cleans to the Pat Hare rude boy sound, it kills...

Anybody here try the old Celestion guitar 15" ? (G75, G80)...still looking for a few of these, very cool speaker.
